Yuletide was both fun and stressful! The assignment I got was incredibly challenging and out of my comfort zone, but I tried really hard. The fic I got (So Many Miles and So Long) was astounding in quality. I loved it a lot. And I'm extra, extra glad there is more Lord Roxton/Edward Malone fic in this world now. I mean, it was practically canon, considering how it ended. It's a relationship I get really flaily about, because the subtext was delicious. Oh, and fairyniamh also wrote me a Stanley Kids Series fic called Boys Are Dumb! So it wasn't exactly IN Yuletide, but it was inspired BY Yuletide, and I was thrilled with it.

And I wrote three fics for Yuletide. :) For my main fic, I wrote a threesome! With two women and a man! I still don't think I managed to make it very sexy, but I do think it's kind of pretty. It's called The Distance Between Stars, and I really liked how I framed it. That I was really proud of! :)

Then I wrote A Very Happy Hitchhiker's Christmas and fucked up the title because OF COURSE I DID, but it's fixed now, so just hush. This is my best story in years. Thursday_Next had a prompt that just grabbed me, and since I've always wanted to play in that fandom I thought I'd give it a whirl. And OMG I LAUGHED SO HARD WRITING IT. Basically, this fic was just like my wildest Snarry fics--totally improbable and a blast to write.

It was also the fic that featured the Windolene, so thank you to my oh-so-British flisties for the suggestion. :)

A Very Happy Hitchhiker’s Christmas (4248 words) by abstractconcept
Fandom: Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - Douglas Adams
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Arthur Dent/Ford Prefect
Characters: Arthur Dent, Ford Prefect, Zaphod Beeblebrox
Summary: In which Arthur Dent gets just what he wanted for Christmas, except the tea, and Ford Prefect gets the thing he's been pining for.

“You’re always going on about your spleen, like it’s so great.” Ford poked Arthur in the chest with a certain drunken belligerence.

And then, ha ha, because I was just SURE writing a case!fic for Pushing Daisies would be easier than writing a threesome with het (AHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHHHAHAHAAAAAAaaaahahahaahahahaahahahahhaha: IT'S TOTALLY FUCKING NOT EASIER AT ALL) I tried my hand at that.Oh, wow, mysteries are hard. Plus, you know, it was the last thing I wrote and right in the middle of the holidays, so I had limited brainpower for it. So basically I threw some brainstorming together back in late November, then ignored the whole thing until approximately two days prior to Yuletide, then sat down and wrote the whole thing in a panic, and threw it at fairyniamh, who, to her credit, found time to beta it and get it back to me ON CHRISTMAS EVE, how's that for amazing? <3 So yeah, I'd like to say if I had another week to work on it, it would be more polished, but let's face it, I just would have procrastinated even longer, so. I would have liked to put in another subject and I left out a pun and I might have tweaked a couple of things, but to be honest? It's still one of the better things I've written. And it's long, I mean for something I wrote in two days. Also, it's gen! It's funny and alliterative and I think I stayed really, really true to the tone of the show, so on the whole I'm super proud of it. Plus, the recipient liked it and so did other people, and that was really nice. :) The reviewers were super kind to me, and it was really appreciated. That pretty much describes my whole Yuletide experience!

For Love or Money (10937 words) by abstractconcept
Fandom: Pushing Daisies
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Charlotte Charles/Ned (Gen)
Characters: Ned (Pushing Daisies), Charlotte, Emerson Cod, Olive Snook
Summary:Little Daisy Darling (salesperson of the month and Olive Snook Look-alike) seemed to be in love with her boss, Huge Hugh McGrew, a very dead ringer for Emerson Cod. But Hugh was in love with his wife, the equally plus-sized Rustie McGrew. When Huge Hugh finds himself with a cord around his neck and three holes in his chest, Miss Daisy is the prime suspect.
Also I tried to LJ-cut this but it keeps fucking up the formatting. I'm sorry. :(

comments

Actually, he gave me about six pounds of ground elk, and then, like I said, this massive summer sausage. Which I accidentally left in my trunk until the next day--I must have overlooked it when I was taking stuff out. On the plus side, it was fucking freezing out, so my sausage remained an ice block the entire time. The ground elk though--I don't know what to do with it all. Any recipes? Ground beef recipes I could substitute elk into? Keeping in mind I'm trying to be healthy.

Anyway, I don't know exactly how big that sausage is, but it's BIG. Here is a picture of it passing inspection:( Read more... )

Anyway! I'm still alive, just suffering massive allergies these days. Expect a couple more posts from me about Yuletide and year end stuff. :)

comments

Okay, so something rather awesome is happening this weekend. Do you remember being a kid and watching Saturday morning cartoons? I did, every weekend. My favorite was a show that was called Petey the Puppy or something and he was on a search to find his former master, whom he'd been separated from. But either way, the awesome Saturday morning cartoons community on LJ is having a Saturday Morning reinactment this weekend!!! I know it will be hellish to get up all early, but please consider joining! Because I really, really want to watch Pee Wee's Playhouse with you guys. So please, if you'd like to hang out with me early Saturday morning (Maybe we could get drunk and chat all night beforehand, ha ha!) please let me know. COME ON, YOU KNOW IT WOULD BE AWESOME.

And in much more important planning! Which sugary 80s cereal shall I buy for the special day?
1) Captain Crunch
2) Peanut Butter Crunch (I'm leaning toward this one--it's less disgusting to my now adult mouth)
3) Lucky Charms
4) Life (I think this is acceptable, if I add at least two spoonfuls of sugar)
5) Frosted Flakes
6) Pops
7) Coco puffs
8) Rice krispies (again, only allowed with two spoons of sugar)
9) Cookie crisp
10) Apple Jacks OR
11) Fruity Pebbles. Choose your poision, but choose wisely! :D Leave me a comment on my cereal; I demand it. Unfortunately there are no Snarryos.

comments

Book Suggestions?

I just bought a Kindle and I'm trying to decide what I should put on it. Naturally, there were a zillion books I wanted right up until I went to browse to buy some, and now I can't remember a goddamned one. Does anyone have any suggestions? I love true crime (Ann Rule, Ron Franscell) history (Erik Larson, though his latest was a dud) super cheesy summer thrillers (Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child, though THEIR latest was a dud as well) and of course, slash. And fantasy. And young adult or even children's books (Zilpha Keatley Snyder, Harry Potter) and I love humor!

I DON'T like grimdark (George R.R. Martin), rape or misogyny (as far as I recall, Clive Cussler, John Sandford and Patricia Cornwell grossed me out), and a couple authors that are just not to my tastes are Llynn Flewelling and Mercedes Lackey.

I'm just looking for something I can read while I hang out at the part. Any ideas? What are some of your favorite books? Any good M/M you like, particularly stuff by female authors?

comments

Even with the "OMG Slash? EW!" I still found Tom Felton on Conan to be pretty fricken funny.

Also, after following the discussion on Bethbethbeth's journal (Er, I don't yet know how to code for DW usernames--I don't have time right now) I decided to buy a Kindle. My dad gave me $250 in Amazon gift cards for graduation, and I have been wanting for a long time. I just couldn't justify spending that much. The rest of the money I got for graduation I'll save. :)

comments

Right now I'm setting up my journal by adding just about everyone in Alisanne's circle. Because I'm lazy and she knows good people. ; ) Then I'll move on and cannibalize Accioslash's circle too, and then I'll probably get bored and wander off and do something else, because in addition to being lazy, I'm also easily distracted. Also, if you're not a friend of Alisanne or Accioslash, you're probably not a person of good character anyway. ; )

But if you wanted to know who this creep is who added you, it's me! :D Er, and I'm the_con_cept on IJ and AO3 and LJ and stuff. I'm nobody very exciting or important. I just write Snape/Harry, and I have a Draco/Harry in the works as well.

comments
